What Group Classes Can Do For You

Group classes are a great way to get a little extra dancing into your week; whether its a warm up before your next private lesson, an excuse to leave the house or adding something special to your date night.

Here are just a few of the benefits of joining a group class:

1. Practice makes perfect

The more chances to dance the better! Need we say more?
Attending a group class is the best way to practice your dancing because you will be in a space that is designed for dancing and you have a teacher with you if you have any questions. The teacher is there to guide you though the lesson so you’ve got someone with you every step of the way. Once the teacher has explained and demonstrated the steps you are learning, the music is turned on and away we go to practice, practice practice!
Muscle memory is a real thing the more you do something the easier it gets and the better you get at it. This is the key to success with dancing!

2. Build a social connection

Something that we have all learnt from 2020 and Covid 19 is that social interaction is super important! Being in a warm and friendly environment with people that you have something in common with is just so special! Rotating partners while in a group class is a great way to meet people and make new friends.
When you first learn to dance, it can take quite a bit of mental muscle to keep moving and have a conversation at the same time, but by practicing in small bursts with each partner, you’ll build confidence in multi-tasking and be at ease when you dance and chat at the socials.

3. It will make you smile

Dancing releases endorphins - the happy chemicals that basically represent the body saying what you are doing is making me happy, keep doing it! Getting in some exercise and laughing (which happens quite a bit in a group class) is the perfect recipe to a smile.
Of course you’ll learn lots but when trying new things there are always a few little hiccups along the way. In our groups, we always have a laugh it off attitude and that energy keeps learning light and fun, no matter whether you’re learning steps, technique or anything in between.

4. Exercise

Ballroom dancing is a fun way to increase your health and fitness. Most people don’t even notice that their heart rate is increasing as they dance. Through every step that you practice your muscles will become toned and your cardiovascular strength increases.
You get out what you put in, so in any level group class you can choose your challenge level. Even a beginner class for an advanced student can be the perfect opportunity to practice new techniques like without having to worry about any new steps. The more you engage your body and add layers to your dancing, the more exercise you will experience through the balance, posture and control that comes with learning to dance.

5. Relaxation

Joining a group class is a great way to let your mind relax from the stresses of every day life.
Once the music is turned on and you start to practice your steps and focus on leading or following your partner, everything else will just disappear. So many of our students say that they were stressed when they walked in and after dancing, left feeling happy and calm. We hope the studio always leaves your day a little brighter than when you came in.

We certainly hope you’ll come round for a group class soon and get all the great benefits that come with putting that little bit extra into your dancing. If you’re new to dance and want to get started with us, we’d love to introduce you to the wonderful world of dance.
