Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Partner?
You do not need a dance partner to learn how to dance at Arthur Murray. Whether you are interested in Ballroom, Latin, Salsa, or any other type of partner dance, you can learn on your own, or with someone special. If you’re learning solo, you’ll have your own instructor to dance with and we change partners at groups and socials so everyone is dancing.
What do I wear to my first visit?
Dress in comfortable clothes and wear shoes that stay on your feet. Students wear a range of outfits from casual to work attire - you may feel better when dancing if you dress up a little, the most important thing is that you feel good in whatever you’re wearing.
What will I learn?
If you have a specific dance or style you’re interested in then we will focus on that, otherwise we will teach you a variety of the popular social dances such as Swing, Salsa & more.
How often do I need to come in for lessons?
Most students come in at least once a week, however we also have students who are in the studio every day, the choice is yours.
How many people are in your group classes?
All of our group classes are less than 20 people to keep them as personalised as possible, an instructor will guide you through the steps and there’s lots of time dedicated to practice and building muscle memory.
How do the parties work?
Our practice parties are designed to give you a place to dance, where you can reach out for help and have fun at the same time. All of our instructors attend our parties to help facilitate the most success.
What dances do you teach?
We teach anything that you can dance with a partner. Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing, Country Western, Quick Step, Paso Doble, Salsa, Mambo, Polka, Argentine Tango, Jive, Lindy Hop, Bolero, Night Club 2-Step and more.
Who will be my teacher?
All of the teachers at Arthur Murray Dance Studios go through a rigorous training program that can last anywhere from 6 months to a year. They are experienced dancers and are qualified to teach all the dances Arthur Murray has to offer. We also believe in team teaching so you’ll be able to have lessons with any instructor on our team to give your learning depth and range.
Do you teach total beginners?
Even if you've never stepped foot on a dance floor in your life, or you haven't done so in a long time - we can teach you. You don't need dance experience to be a dance student.
